Day Fourteen: Siargao Island – Surf Surf Surf

Surf time. An early rise and a pancake breakfast. I headed down to the Cloud Nine area to find a board and instructor for a lesson. Being a reef bay requires a lot of swimming to get out to the larger waves. Of which you are spoiled for choice; with Jacking Horse, Quicksilver and Cloud 9 all close by. There was a huge amount of variety for all levels of surfer, some breaks 8-10 ft others smaller this was great for building up confidence and practising manoeuvring on the board (my main goal for the trip).

After a great first session, I caught up with Tom, lying in Hammocks on the beach reading books for the rest of the morning. Bliss. We headed to Ronaldo’s for some Chicken Abodo; a cheap local joint (just 130php).

Round two for surfing! This time going out to the bigger waves. A serious swim out; definitely lacking upper body fitness. I was able to catch some of my best waves yet, landing my first proper right turn along the wave side.

After just an hour I was totally exhausted, we headed back to the hostel, grabbed some drinks, then dinner Kaizen (serving falafel and kebabs) expecting a quiet night to be greeted by a massive group at Aloha celebrating someone’s last night. Card games, rum and music we headed out to the resorts “club” for a great night of dancing…
